NRDems Forum: Discovery's Sonic Sea: Screening and Panel Discussion

Date: Wednesday, June 8, 2016 Time: 12:00 PM Location: Capitol Visitor Center, Congressional Meeting Room North 268

On Wednesday, June 8, Discovery in partnership with the House Committee on Natural Resources will be holding a screening and discussion of “Sonic Sea”, a documentary that explores the harmful impacts of rising noise levels in the Earth’s oceans.

The last 100 years have seen increasing noise levels in our oceans from activities such as freight shipping, construction, and oil and gas exploration. This has caused detrimental effects on marine life where underwater sound is the key to survival. Marine life, such as dolphins and whales, depend on sound to hunt for food, navigate, and protect themselves from predators. Sonic Sea examines the damaging consequences of increased ocean noise and how we can protect the Earth’s precious underwater creatures.
