Ranking Member Huffman
Ranking Member Jared Huffman has dedicated his career to public service, environmental stewardship, and advancing progressive values. Since being sworn into the 113th Congress on January 3, 2013, he has proudly represented California’s 2nd Congressional District. Huffman has been a member of the Natural Resources Committee for over a decade, most recently serving as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries during the 118th Congress.
Jared is committed to defending our coastlines from offshore drilling and has previously introduced legislation to protect the Pacific and Arctic Oceans as part of a nationwide push to preserve ecosystems and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Known for his ability to find bipartisan solutions, Huffman has worked across the aisle to tackle some of the country’s most pressing environmental issues.
Huffman’s journey to Congress was shaped by a career in environmental law and public service. Before his election, he served six years in the California Assembly, where he chaired the Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee. There, he led transformative water reforms and authored impactful legislation to enhance energy efficiency, protect wildlife, and strengthen the state parks system. Prior to his legislative work, Huffman was a Senior Attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), where he played a pivotal role in restoring a 153-mile stretch of the San Joaquin River in California's Central Valley. His early career as a public interest attorney brought victories in gender and race discrimination cases, and he served 12 years on the Marin Municipal Water District board, shaping local water policy and resource management.
