Oversight Hearing: Hearing on Examining Impacts of Federal Natural Resources Laws Gone Astray, Part II

Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations Date: Tuesday, July 18, 2017 Time: 10:00 AM Location: Longworth House Office Building 1324

DEMOCRATIC TOPLINE MESSAGES

  • The premise of this hearing is false. Instead of asking whether our natural resources laws are doing enough for special corporate interests, this Committee should be asking whether our natural resources laws are flexible enough to tackle the most threatening issue of our time: climate change.
  • From allowing oil and gas companies to pay exceedingly low royalties to the American taxpayer, to weakening BLM’s rule to reduce methane emissions from wells on public lands, this administration is doing everything it can to hand over our public lands to the fossil fuel industry.
  • If we are going to take a serious look at the implementation of our natural resources laws, we should investigate whether the Trump administration’s servility to fossil fuel companies conflicts with the multiple use mandate in FLPMA.
