WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Steven Horsford’s (NV-4) Lyon County Economic Development and Conservation Act passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee on a vote of 29-14 as part of a Nevada lands package.
“This much-needed jobs bill is moving forward,” Horsford said. “This is a commonsense piece of bipartisan legislation that will put Nevadans back to work, and we are now one step closer to providing an economic jolt to Lyon County.”
The legislation will allow the City of Yerington to partner with Nevada Copper to develop roughly 12,500 acres of land surrounding the Pumpkin Hollow project site, which is already creating jobs in Nevada.
The Pumpkin Hollow project is estimated to create 800 mining jobs and 500 construction jobs. The land conveyed by this bill will also be used for industrial, recreation, and infrastructure purposes that will create desperately needed jobs and economic development for Yerington.
