Livestreams This Week: Renewable Energy Transmission and Fishery Bills on Tuesday, Committee Markup on Wednesday

Washington, D.C. – The Natural Resources Committee is holding three livestreamed events this week.

TUESDAY, NOV.16

Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources

The Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, led by Chair Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.), will hold an oversight hearing titled, Plugging in Public Lands: Transmission Infrastructure for Renewable Energy.

Public lands and waters are home to tremendous renewable energy resources. During several hearings earlier this year, the subcommittee explored opportunities for wind, solar, and geothermal to create new American jobs, support local economies, and provide for a just and equitable transition away from fossil fuels. Smart transmission planning is key to unlocking these benefits and bringing clean electricity from public lands into homes and businesses.

The Department of the Interior must have a seat at the table as Congress, the Biden administration, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission continue working to advance responsible clean energy transmission build-out. Interior must ensure that transmission infrastructure on public lands and waters minimizes environmental impacts, respects input from tribes and local communities, benefits American taxpayers, and supports continued expansion of clean energy on public lands.
