NEXT WEEK: Oversight of Trump Budget, Oak Flat Impacts, Full Committee Markup
Washington, D.C. – The Committee on Natural Resources will hold three hearings and a markup next week.
On Tuesday, March 10, the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands will meet at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time in Longworth 1324 for an oversight hearing on the Trump administration’s fiscal year 2021 budget proposal for the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service. Also on March 10, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time, the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources will meet in Longworth 1324 for an oversight hearing on the administration’s budget request for the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, and U.S. Geological Survey.
On Wednesday, March 11, the full Committee will meet at 10:00 a.m. in Longworth 1324 for a markup on 11 bills.
On Thursday, March 12, the Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States will meet at 9:00 a.m. Eastern time in Longworth 1324 to discuss the cultural impacts of copper mining in Native communities, with a focus on the Resolution Copper mining proposal near Superior, Ariz. That project is widely opposed in Indian Country, including by local tribes that would be most directly impacted. A nearby area known as Oak Flat is listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its cultural importance to several Native American communities.
