Ranking Member Grijalva Speaking at Saguaro National Park Thursday to Highlight 100 Years of NPS Preserving America’s Heritage

Tucson, Ariz. – Ranking Member Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) will commemorate the National Park Service’s (NPS) Centennial on Thursday, Aug. 25, with remarks at the reopening ceremony of the visitor center at Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Ariz.

The event, which begins at 8:00 a.m. Arizona time (11:00 a.m. Eastern time), will also feature Saguaro National Park Interim Superintendent Leah McGuinness; Tohono O’odham Nation Vice Chairman Jerry Carlyle; Bob Newtson of Friends of Saguaro National Park; and teacher Dan Bell and his students at Arizona College Preparatory Academy, who are engaged in a variety of service learning activities at Saguaro National Park throughout the year.

Grijalva will highlight the need to ensure that our national parks and monuments reflect the full diversity of our nation’s citizens, actively engage Americans of all lifestyles and backgrounds, and respect the cultural history of the land.

In celebration of NPS’s 100th anniversary, all 413 national parks across the country are offering free admission from August 25-28 to encourage people to get outdoors, explore their local parks and learn about how they can help conserve our public lands for the next 100 years.
