Chair Grijalva Releases Natural Resources Climate Action Report, Highlights Top Accomplishments of 2019

Washington D.C. – The House Natural Resources Committee spent 2019 tackling climate change from every angle. Today, Natural Resources Committee Chair Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) released his Climate Action Report detailing the work done by the Committee to combat the climate crisis, including holding 22 hearings on the topic, since taking the majority of the U.S. House of Representatives in January.

The release of this report comes days after Chair Grijalva and leaders from the Natural Resources Committee released their flagship legislation to fight the climate crisis. Their bill, H.R. 5435, the American Public Lands and Waters Climate Solution Act, directs the Department of the Interior (DOI) and the United States Forest Service (USFS) to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from public lands and waters by 2040. This legislation is the result of the hearings, roundtables, public forums, and other public outreach efforts done by the committee on climate change this year detailed in the report.

“This year the Natural Resources Committee listened to scientists, elected leaders, Native American communities, youth advocates and members of the public. Their comments and stories informed the action we took on climate change this year,” said Chair Grijalva. “This report illustrates the Committee’s focus on climate change and the solutions we have offered. I’m proud of the work we’ve done so far and know that so much more needs to be done to fight the climate crisis. I look forward to continuing our efforts in 2020, and beyond, to helping protect the entire planet and meet our ethical responsibilities to future generations.

In addition to the Climate Action Report, Chair Grijalva released a video and documenthighlighting the top committee accomplishments from the first year of the 116th Congress.
