Grijalva Leads Resolution to Commemorate 60th Anniversary of Wilderness Act
Today, U.S. House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) led House Democratic colleagues in introducing a resolution to recognize Sept. 3, 2024, as the 60th anniversary of the Wilderness Act.
“With the dual, compounding crises of climate change and biodiversity, the Wilderness Act is as important today as ever,” said Ranking Member Grijalva. “The country’s vast network of wilderness areas is not just a boon for local recreation economies, it’s essential to protecting the natural spaces that help build our resilience to more extreme weather, like flooding and droughts. I am proud to introduce this resolution and thank my colleagues for helping me celebrate the law’s many conservation achievements over the past 60 years. As we look to the future of the Wilderness Act, let us continue this momentum while also reshaping our conservation legacy to be more inclusive of Indigenous leadership and perspectives.”
