House Natural Resources Committee Democrats Elect New IIANA Subcommittee Ranking Member

Washington, D.C.  Under the leadership of Ranking Member Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.), the Democratic Caucus of the House Natural Resources Committee met today to select a new ranking member of the Subcommittee on Indian, Insular, and Alaska Native Affairs (IIANA). The meeting was necessary to replace the former IIANA Subcommittee Ranking Member Norma Torres (D-Calif.), who recently resigned from the Committee to serve on the House Rules Committee.

The Democratic Caucus selected Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) to serve as the ranking member of the IIANA Subcommittee.

“Congressman Gallego has been a firm advocate for the people of Phoenix, tribal communities, and people all across the nation,” Grijalva said. “He’s been a fierce leader on our Committee and has proven that he’s not afraid to speak up and call Republicans out when they’re wrong. He will use his strong voice and experience to champion these issues for all the communities he represents.”

Earlier this month, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) was appointed by Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to join the House Natural Resources Committee. She was appointed today to serve on the Subcommittees on IIANA and Energy and Mineral Resources.
