Huffman Responds to Trump, Vought Pulling the Plug on Billions in Investments in Clean Energy Across the Country
Washington, D.C. – Today, Natural Resources Ranking Member Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) issued a statement slamming President Trump and Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought for canceling $8 billion in lawfully approved clean energy projects across the country:
“The Republican shutdown is already crushing American workers, families, and small businesses. Now Trump and his hatchet man Russ Vought are wiping out America's future to reward their oil baron donors and lock families into higher prices and fossil fuel dependence.“Solar, wind, and batteries are already delivering affordable, homegrown power across America, yet Trump keeps peddling his 'energy abundance' con job. This is Russ’s sick, twisted Project 2025 playbook in action: sabotage the competition, punish anyone who won't bend the knee, and let Big Oil write the checks while Americans foot the bill.“Trump and Russ orchestrated this to get revenge and launch a political attack on Democrats – but the reality is these cuts are going to hurt hardworking people in both blue and red states. These goons have made it clear they don’t care about anyone except their billionaire buddies.“Democrats are fighting for everyone, regardless of whether they voted for us. We’re fighting to reopen the government, save health care, lower costs, and create jobs – because that’s what it means to serve.”
Background
On October 1, OMB Director Russ Vought moved to take advantage of the Republican shutdown and cancel nearly $8 billion in funding for clean energy projects across the country. The terminated funding spans 321 awards across 16 Democratic-led states and 136 congressional districts—including 28 represented by Republicans.
