Ranking Member Huffman Statement After Federal Court Strikes Down Trump's Illegal Attacks on America’s Endangered Species
Washington, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) released the following statement after a federal court struck down a series of Trump administration rollbacks that weakened the Endangered Species Act, restoring the law to its pre-Trump status:
"The Endangered Species Act kept the bald eagle, the manatee, and the gray wolf from disappearing forever, and today a federal court restored it to full strength after striking down Donald Trump's illegal attempts to gut it. Americans love this law — and a federal judge confirmed that Trump broke it when he gutted protections for the species that depend on it.
"The timing could not be more important. Tomorrow, Trump’s hand-picked 'God Squad' meets for the first time in over 30 years to exempt every oil and gas operation in the Gulf from endangered species protections, a brazen gift to billionaires that could drive the Rice's whale, sea turtles, and other Gulf wildlife toward extinction. The ink on today's ruling isn't dry and they're already lining up their next corrupt giveaway to Big Oil. Democrats will hold them accountable every step of the way."
