VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Democrats Demand Answers From Trump Administration Officials on Offshore Drilling
Washington, D.C. – Today, Natural Resources Committee Democrats held an Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee hearing to examine the drilling policies and practices of the Trump administration. Subcommittee Chair Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.) and committee Democrats pressed Trump administration witnesses from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) for answers on President Trump’s irresponsible offshore drilling plan that puts communities, wildlife and our planet in harm’s way.

Earlier today, Chair Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and Rep. Lowenthal renewed their request for the phone records of BSEE Director Scott Angelle, who was captured on video in 2017 encouraging industry officials to call his personal cell phone number to discuss federal policy and avoid public records laws.
The request from Grijalva and Lowenthal was made shortly before the Committee convened its hearing on offshore drilling issues. Doug Morris, chief of the BSEE offshore regulatory program, testified today that Angelle, who rejected the Committee’s invitation to testify, was sitting in his office during the hearing.
House Democrats have strongly opposed President Trump’s efforts to expand offshore drilling. At the beginning of the 116th Congress, a coalition of Democrats introduced a suite of bills to protect America’s coastal communities from offshore drilling.
