MEDIA ADVISORY: Chairs Grijalva and Maloney to Hold Press Conference, Site Visits on Advancing Environmental Justice
Members of Congress to Hear from NYC Community Leaders on Impacts of Pollution, Needed Environmental Justice Legislation
Washington, D.C. – On Friday, March 11, 2022, at approximately 11:10 a.m. Eastern in Queens, N.Y., Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.), Chair of the Committee on Natural Resources, and Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform will hold an in-person press conference to kick off a two-day series of events to receive community input on oversight priorities and legislation related to environmental justice, including the historic Environmental Justice For All Act, which was introduced by Chair Grijalva and Rep. A. Donald McEachin (D-Va.) on March 18, 2021.
At the press conference and throughout the events that follow, the Chairs will hear directly from environmental justice leaders about the impacts of pollution on their communities, the work they have done to address those impacts, and federal policies that are needed to support this work, both in their communities and on a national scale. The community site visits and tours will give the Chairs a firsthand look at both the ongoing environmental injustices in these communities and the programs and projects that community leaders have successfully put in place to address them. This input and experience will be invaluable in continuing to shape the Environmental Justice For All Act, which has been drafted through a years-long community-led process.
Following the press conference, media are invited to join the site visits and other events listed below, as capacity allows. Media planning to attend the press conference and/or site visits in-person must RSVP to Lindsay.Gressard@mail.house.gov by 9 a.m. ET on Friday, March 11, 2022.
