Washington, D.C. – Chair Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) will hold a media availability at 10:30 a.m. local time on Monday, Sept. 16, at La Fortaleza in San Juan, Puerto Rico, following meetings with the governor and legislative assembly leadership. Reporters interested in attending should contact Margarita Varela-Rosa with Chair Grijalva’s insular affairs staff at margarita.varela-rosa@mail.house.gov or (202) 748-2828.
In addition to those meetings, Grijalva’s upcoming trip to Puerto Rico will include visits to San Juan, Loíza, Guayama, Adjuntas, and Vieques. Grijalva will hold a series of meetings with local leaders to discuss the pace of reconstruction across the island and gather information on coastal erosion, coal emissions and other environmental issues.
Grijalva’s visit follows on a Natural Resources Committee bipartisan delegation trip and listening session in March. In announcing that event, Grijalva said in an introductory video that he considers Puerto Rico “an agenda item of vast importance to the Natural Resources Committee, and consequently to the United States Congress.”
