MEDIA ADVISORY: Chair Grijalva, Rep. Barragán, Rep. Lowenthal, Community Leaders to Hold Environmental Justice Press Conference in Southern California

Washington, D.C. – On Friday, July 8, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific in Wilmington, California, House Natural Resources Committee Chair Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) will hold an in-person press conference with Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (D-Calif.), Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.), and community leaders on environmental justice issues in southern California. The press conference will highlight H.R. 2021, the Environmental Justice For All Act, the most comprehensive piece of federal environmental justice legislation to date.

After the press conference and over the following two days, Chair Grijalva and other members of Congress will join local environmental justice leaders to visit various community sites in southern California. The site visits will provide a firsthand look at ongoing environmental injustices in the area, community leaders’ and local officials’ efforts to address those injustices, and opportunities for federal policy and legislation.

The legislation was originally drafted and continues to be shaped by a historic years-long, community-led process. Previous stops on the tour include New York City, Detroit, Tucson, and “Cancer Alley” in southeastern Louisiana.
