MEDIA ADVISORY: Chair Grijalva, Rep. McEachin to Hold Press Conference, Make Site Visits on Environmental Justice in Richmond, Va.

Washington, D.C. – On Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern in Richmond, Virginia, House Natural Resources Committee Chair Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and Rep. A. Donald McEachin (D-Va.) will hold an in-person press conference to hear from community leaders about environmental justice issues in Richmond. The press conference will highlight the lawmakers’ Environmental Justice For All Act, the most comprehensive federal environmental justice legislation to date.

After the press conference, Chair Grijalva and Rep. McEachin will join community leaders for a bus tour of various sites in the Richmond area. The tour will provide a firsthand look at ongoing environmental injustices in the area, community leaders’ efforts to address those injustices, and opportunities for federal policy and legislation. Stops on the tour will include the Maggie Walker National Historic Site & The Hippodrome Theater, Shockoe Hill African Burying Ground, Woodland Cemetery, Lumpkin’s Slave Jail, and Hillside Court.

The lawmakers’ visit to Richmond is part of their Community Input Tour for the Environmental Justice For All Act. Previous stops on the tour include New York City with Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), Detroit, Tucson, Ariz., southeastern Louisiana, and southern California.
