NEXT WEEK: Markup and Hearings on Legislation to Protect Grand Canyon, America’s Public Lands from Trump Administration Industry Favoritism
Washington, D.C. – The Committee on Natural Resources is holding a markup next Wednesday, July 17, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time on three bills, including Chairman Raúl M. Grijalva’s (D-Ariz.) Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act, which protects 1,006,545 acres of public land surrounding the Grand Canyon from mining, as well as Rep. Ben Ray Luján’s (D-N.M.) Chaco Cultural Heritage Area Protection Act of 2019 to protect Chaco ruins and nearby landscapes from future leasing and development.
The Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources will hold a hearing on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time titled Oil and Gas Development: Impacts of Business-as-Usual on the Climate and Public Health, to highlight the need for the Department of the Interior to incorporate greenhouse gas emissions into its leasing decisions so the needs of the American public are put before the demands of polluters.
The Committee’s full schedule and witness lists are available below. As with all hearings, these events are open to media and the public.
