Huffman Statement on Trump’s Latest Gift to Big Oil

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) issued the following statement after the Trump administration announced it would roll back essential public lands and public health protections in the Bureau of Land Management’s oil and gas leasing rule and the waste prevention rule:

“There is no limit to what this corrupt administration will do to please its Big Oil overlords.

“Requiring oil and gas companies to minimize pollution, prevent waste, clean up after themselves, and ensure taxpayers receive a fair return is the bare minimum for anyone profiting off our public resources. Instead, this administration wants to pass the buck to hardworking Americans, asking you to pay for Big Oil’s messes and live with the pollution and sickness that comes with it – all while families are struggling under skyrocketing healthcare and energy bills caused by Republican policies.

“And instead of listening to the people this will hurt, this administration is dramatically cutting public input, turning the three-month public comment period into a 10-day box-checking exercise.

“Democrats will fight these harmful rollbacks and hold everyone involved accountable.”
