Natural Resources Committee Democrats Launch #SaveLWCF Countdown, Urge Vote On Bipartisan Bill Before LWCF Expires
Washington, D.C. – Ranking Member Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and the House Natural Resources Committee Democrats launched an online #SaveLWCF initiative today highlighting successful Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) projects implemented across the country in the more than 50 years since the program was established in 1965.
Natural Resources Democrats will tweet an LWCF success story every hour until Sept. 30, when the program is set to expire. Each tweet will tell the story of how LWCF has impacted communities across the nation by protecting access to public lands and open spaces where Americans hunt, fish, hike, swim, and play. The first tweet highlighted Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas.
“I’m proud that the Committee passed a bipartisan bill permanently reauthorizing the program last week, but that was just a step,” Grijalva said today. “Republican leaders need to schedule a vote before this overwhelmingly popular program expires. We have a chance to help communities across the country at no cost to taxpayers, and we shouldn’t let that chance slip away.”
Follow @NRDems on Twitter and participate by tweeting LWCF success stories from your community using the hashtag #SaveLWCF before the program expires on Sept. 30.
